As destination weddings become easier and cheaper, more and more couples move to a more exotic location in their local venue. If you want to get married away from home, photography of the destination wedding is something you would carefully consider.

Using local vendors is part of what makes a wedding destination special for most of your wedding needs. Nonetheless, your wedding pictures are going to be something you’re looking at for the rest of your life, so you want to make sure you’re getting it right. You have two options when you have a destination wedding; you can either use the venue’s local photographer, or you can take a photographer with you.

Bringing your own photographer to your wedding destination

Along with maybe a hair stylist, a photographer is the most popular supplier couples for a wedding destination. If they do weddings far away, you might ask any wedding photographer, but some are particularly skilled in photography of the destination wedding.

Because you are hiring a photographer at home for your wedding venue, you should take time to shop around and choose one that you love. You can also be pretty sure that if things go wrong with the images you will get reimbursement, and that they will use up-to-date imaging methods and technologies.

If you’re bringing a photographer with you, you’re going to meet them before the wedding and have them around more comfortably. You can also get a wider range of photos, maybe some taken on the way on the plane and some taken by the guests chilling by the pool the day before the wedding.

The cost of taking your own photographer to your destination wedding is, of course, the biggest downside. You’ll have to bill for your airfare and lodging as well as for your services and the pictures themselves.

But, in the long run it is okay to spend a little more now, than to regret for the rest of your life.
